Hypertriglyceridemic waist identifies HIV+ men and women at increased cardiometabolic risk

چکیده
Background Screening for increased waist circumference and hypertriglyceridemia (the hypertriglyceridemic-waist phenotype) is an inexpensive approach to identify patients at risk of coronary artery disease in apparently healthy individuals who may be at increased risk of type 2 diabetes and coronary heart disease because of an excess of intra-abdominal (visceral) fat. We examined the relationship between the hypertriglyceridemic-waist and selected cardiometabolic risk factors in HIV individuals.

South Asians have a higher incidence of coronary heart disease (CHD) than individuals of European descent1 and present with first acute myocardial infarction at younger ages.2 In the study by Joshi et al,2 among the several CHD risk factors that differentiated native South Asians from those living in other countries was an increase in abdominal obesity. Of interest in this context is the sugges...

BACKGROUND Screening for increased waist circumference and hypertriglyceridemia (the hypertriglyceridemic-waist phenotype) has been proposed as an inexpensive approach to identify patients with excess intra-abdominal adiposity and associated metabolic abnormalities. We examined the relationship between the hypertriglyceridemic-waist phenotype to the risk of coronary artery disease in apparently...
متن کاملCardiometabolic disease risk and HIV status in rural South Africa: establishing a baseline
BACKGROUND To inform health care and training, resource and research priorities, it is essential to establish how non-communicable disease risk factors vary by HIV-status in high HIV burden areas; and whether long-term anti-retroviral therapy (ART) plays a modifying role. METHODS As part of a cohort initiation, we conducted a baseline HIV/cardiometabolic risk factor survey in 2010-2011 using ...

The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship between the hypertriglyceridemic waist (HTGW) phenotype and metabolic abnormalities in hypertensive adults.A cross-sectional study, with a sample of 5919 hypertensive adults (2892 men and 3027 women) aged 35 years or older, was recruited from rural areas of China. The participants underwent anthropometric measurements and laboratory examina...
متن کاملUtility of the hypertriglyceridemic waist phenotype in the cardiometabolic risk assessment of youth stratified by body mass index.
BACKGROUND It is unclear whether the hypertriglyceridemic waist phenotype (HTWP) can be used to identify those at most risk of cardiometabolic disorders. OBJECTIVES The utility of the HTWP as a useful predictor of cardiometabolic risk in youth stratified by body mass index was assessed. METHODS Three hundred and eighty-seven children (12-17.5 years) were used within this cross-sectional stu...
